Day and Night

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

• explore the concept of night and day;
• understand how they occur as a result of the rotation of Earth around its axis;
• understand that it takes the Earth 24 hours to rotate around its axis.
• understand that when the Earth rotates, it is day on the side facing the Sun and night on the side facing away from the Sun.

• use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night and the apparent movement of the sun across the sky.
