Area of any Triangle

In this lesson, learners will be able to measure and calculate the perimeter of composite rectilinear shapes in centimetres and metres; calculate and compare the area of rectangles and squares, including using standard units, square centimetres (cm²) and square metres (m²); and estimate the area of irregular shapes.

Description

By the end of this unit, learners will:

extend their knowledge of working out the area of a right-angled triangle to work out the are of any triangle;
identify that the perpendicular height is not always the length of one of the sides.

Recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa.
Recognise when it is possible to use formulae for the area and volume of shapes.
