By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
- understand the Pythagorean Theorem and its significance in right-angled triangles;
- apply the theorem to calculate unknown side lengths in right-angled triangles;
- solve real-world problems involving distances, measurements, and applications of the Pythagorean Theorem.
Curriculum Alignment: Key Stage 4: Geometry and measures
- apply angle facts, triangle congruence, similarity and properties of quadrilaterals to derive results about angles and sides, including Pythagoras’ Theorem, and use known results to obtain simple proofs
- use Pythagoras’ Theorem and trigonometric ratios in similar triangles to solve problems involving right-angled triangles
