By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
- Describe the properties of solids, liquids, and gases, such as shape, volume, and flow.
- Classify different materials into their respective states of matter based on their properties.
- Investigate changes of state, such as melting, freezing, evaporation, and condensation.
- Explain how heating and cooling can affect the state of a substance.
Curriculum Alignment: Year 4 Science: State of matter
- compare and group materials together, according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases
- observe that some materials change state when they are heated or cooled, and measure or research the temperature at which this happens in degrees Celsius (°C)
- identify the part played by evaporation and condensation in the water cycle and associate the rate of evaporation with temperature
