converting units of capacity

Converting Units of Capacity

In this lesson, learners will learn how to solve problems involving the calculation and conversion of units of measurement; and use, read, write, and convert between units of length, mass, and volume.

Target Grade:
  • Age: 9-10
  • England & Wales: Year 5
  • Scotland: Primary 5
  • Rep. Ireland: Fourth Class
  • Australia: Grade 4
  • USA: Grade 4

Lesson Overview

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Understand the concept of units of capacity and their relationship to measurement.
  2. Convert units of capacity within the same measurement system (e.g., metric or imperial).
  3. Recognize the patterns and relationships between different units of capacity.
  4. Apply the concept of converting units of capacity to solve real-life and mathematical problems.

Curriculum Alignment: Year 5 Measurements:

  • convert between different units of metric measure [for example, kilometre and metre; centimetre and metre; centimetre and millimetre; gram and kilogram; litre and millilitre]
