Components and Simple Circuits

components and simple circuits
Description

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. understand and identify the basic elements of an electrical circuit;
  2. know when a circuit is a complete or incomplete electrical circuit;
  3. understand that the flow of electricity moves from the positive terminal to the negative terminal of the cell or battery;
  4. build and test a range of simple circuits using common components.

Year 6 Science: Electricity

  • associate the brightness of a lamp or the volume of a buzzer with the number and voltage of cells used in the circuit
  • compare and give reasons for variations in how components function, including the brightness of bulbs, the loudness of buzzers and the on/off position of switches
  • use recognised symbols when representing a simple circuit in a diagram.
