Estimating Answers

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. understand the importance of estimation in mathematics and real-life scenarios;
  2. develop strategies for estimating answers to calculations;
  3. use estimation to check the reasonableness of answers and identify errors.

Curriculum Alignment: Key Stage 3: Number (R)

  • Use approximation through rounding to estimate answers and calculate possible resulting errors expressed using inequality notation a<x≤b
