By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

    1. explore the properties and uses of materials such as brick and rock;
    2. conduct simple tests to understand the structure and characteristics of these materials;
    3. identify their suitability for various purposes.

Year 2 Science: Uses of everyday materials

  • identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses;
  • find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.
