Functions of Blood Components

By the end of this unit, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the four main components of blood.
  2. Understand and explain how red blood cells transport oxygen to body tissues and return carbon dioxide to the lungs.
  3. Understand and describe how white blood cells contribute to the immune system by fighting infections.
  4. Describe the function of platelets in blood clotting and wound repair.
  5. Understand that plasma is the liquid component of blood that carries cells, nutrients, hormones, and waste products throughout the body.
