Introduction to Vectors

introduction to vectors
Description

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. define what vectors are and distinguish them from scalar quantities;
  2. recognize that vectors have both magnitude and direction;
  3. understand vector notation and how it is used to represent vectors;
  4. represent vectors geometrically using arrows in a coordinate system.

Key Stage 3: Number

  • describe translations as 2D vectors
  • apply addition and subtraction of vectors, multiplication of vectors by a scalar, and diagrammatic and column representations of vectors; {use vectors to construct geometric arguments and proofs}
