By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
understand the concepts of congruency and similarities between geometric shapes;
identify and apply conditions for congruency and similarities;
solve problems involving congruent and similar shapes, including proportions and ratios.
National Curriculum Objectives
Key Stage 4: Geometry and measures
identify and construct congruent triangles, and construct similar shapes by enlargement, with and without coordinate grids
apply angle facts, triangle congruence, similarity and properties of quadrilaterals to derive results about angles and sides, including Pythagoras’ Theorem, and use known results to obtain simple proofs
Key Stage 4: Ratio, proportion and rates of change
compare lengths, areas and volumes using ratio notation and/or scale factors; make links to similarity (including trigonometric ratios)
