Year 4 science lesson on sound and vibrations with self-grading activities.

Sound and Vibrations

Learn about how sound travels and explore how vibrations are the source of sound production in this engaging lesson.

Target Age:

Lesson Overview

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  • learn about how sound travels;
  • explore how vibrations are the source of sound production;
  • understand how we hear sound in our ear;
  • identify objects that vibrate to create sound (e.g., guitar strings, vocal cords).

Curriculum Alignment: Year 4 Science: Sound

  • identify how sounds are made, associating some of them with something vibrating
  • recognise that vibrations from sounds travel through a medium to the ear
  • find patterns between the pitch of a sound and features of the object that produced it
  • find patterns between the volume of a sound and the strength of the vibrations that produced it
  • recognise that sounds get fainter as the distance from the sound source increases.
