Volume of Cubes and Cuboids

volume of cubes and cuboids
Description

By the end of this unit, students will:

  1. Understand that volume is a measure of how much space an object occupies in three dimensions (length, width, and height).
  2. Calculate the volume of a cube using the formula V = s^3, where V is the volume, and s is the length of one side.
  3. Calculate the volume of a cuboid using the formula V = lwh, where V is the volume, l is the length, w is the width, and h is the height.
  4. apply their knowledge of volume to solve real-world problems

Key Stage 3: Geometry and Measures

  • Derive and apply formulae to calculate and solve problems involving: the perimeter and area of triangles, parallelograms, trapezia, the volume of cuboids (including cubes), and other prisms (including cylinders)
  • Calculate and solve problems involving: perimeters of 2-D shapes (including circles), areas of circles, and composite shapes
