Description

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. understand the concepts of congruency and similarities between geometric shapes;
  2. identify and apply conditions for congruency and similarities;
  3. solve problems involving congruent and similar shapes, including proportions and ratios.

Key Stage 4: Geometry and measures

  • identify and construct congruent triangles, and construct similar shapes by enlargement, with and without coordinate grids
  • apply angle facts, triangle congruence, similarity and properties of quadrilaterals to derive results about angles and sides, including Pythagoras’ Theorem, and use known results to obtain simple proofs

Key Stage 4: Ratio, proportion and rates of change

  • compare lengths, areas and volumes using ratio notation and/or scale factors; make links to similarity (including trigonometric ratios)
