Construct and Interpret Box and Whisker Plots

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. understand the purpose of box and whisker plots in summarizing data distributions;
  2. create and interpret box and whisker plots for different data sets;
  3. analyze and compare data sets using box and whisker plots.

Curriculum Alignment: Key Stage 4: Statistics

  • Interpret, analyse and compare the distributions of data sets from univariate empirical distributions through:
    • appropriate graphical representation involving discrete, continuous and grouped data, {including box plots}.
    • appropriate measures of central tendency (including modal class) and spread {including quartiles and inter-quartile range}.
