By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. learn what fossils are and how they are formed;
  2. recall that a fossil is the imprint in a rock of a living thing that lived a long time ago;
  3. revisit and deepen their understanding of fossilisation; and
  4. sequence the steps in fossil formation.

Year 6 Science: Evolution and inheritance:

  • recognise that living things have changed over time and that fossils provide information about living things that inhabited the Earth millions of years ago
