Melting and Freezing

Help students explore the states of water! They’ll learn that water and ice are the same substance, observe freezing and melting, and understand how water changes between liquid and solid forms.

Description

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. understand that both water and ice are made of the same substance;
  2. recognize that water is a liquid and ice is a solid;
  3. observe and describe what happens to water when it is frozen;
  4. observe and describe what happens to ice when it is heated;
  5. understand that water can change to ice by freezing and ice can change to water by melting.

  • compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties
