By the end of this unit, students will:

  1. Understand the concepts of area and perimeter and their significance in geometry.
  2. Calculate the area and perimeter of parallelograms and trapezoids using appropriate formulas.
  3. Apply the knowledge of area and perimeter to solve real-world problems and analyze shapes.

Key Stage 3: Geometry and Measures

  • Derive and apply formulae to calculate and solve problems involving: the perimeter and area of triangles, parallelograms, trapezia, the volume of cuboids (including cubes), and other prisms (including cylinders)
  • Calculate and solve problems involving: perimeters of 2-D shapes (including circles), areas of circles, and composite shapes

  • Age: 11-14

  • England & Wales: Year 7-9

  • Scotland: S1-S3

  • Rep. Ireland: 6th Class-2nd Year

  • Australia: Grade 6-8

  • USA: Grade 6-8
