Fraction of Quantities

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

1. understand the concept of finding a fraction of a quantity;
2. represent fractions as parts of a whole and relate them to quantities;
3. apply multiplication and division strategies to find a fraction of a quantity.
4. solve real-life and mathematical problems involving finding a fraction of quantities.

• Count up and down in tenths; recognise that tenths arise from dividing an object into 10 equal parts and in dividing one-digit numbers or quantities by 10.
• Recognise, find and write fractions of a discrete set of objects: unit fractions and non-unit fractions with small denominators.
• Recognise and use fractions as numbers: unit fractions and non-unit fractions with small denominators.
