By the end of this unit, students will be able to:
- explain what it means for an object to float or sink;
- recognize common objects that float and sink;
- predict whether different objects will float or sink before testing them;
- explain their predictions based on their understanding of the properties of the objects (e.g., light vs. heavy, filled with air vs. solid);
- and sort objects into groups of those that float and those that sink after testing.
Curriculum Alignment: Year 1 Science: Everyday Materials
- compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties
