Learn how to predict, test, and explain whether objects float or sink! This lesson helps students understand buoyancy through hands-on activities, object sorting, and scientific predictions.
sink or float
Description

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. explain what it means for an object to float or sink;
  2. recognize common objects that float and sink;
  3. predict whether different objects will float or sink before testing them;
  4. explain their predictions based on their understanding of the properties of the objects (e.g., light vs. heavy, filled with air vs. solid);
  5. and sort objects into groups of those that float and those that sink after testing.
