Recognise and Name 2D Shapes

By the end of this unit, children will be able to:

  1. Recognize and name common 2D shapes (e.g. circle, square, triangle, rectangle).
  2. Describe the attributes of 2D shapes (e.g. number of sides, angles).
  3. Identify and classify shapes based on their attributes (e.g. sorting by number of sides).
  4. Create and draw 2D shapes using given criteria.
  5. Combine and decompose 2D shapes to form new shapes (e.g. combining triangles to make a quadrilateral).
  6. Solve real-life problems using 2D shapes and their properties.

Curriculum Alignment: Year 2 Geometry: Properties of shapes

  • Identify and describe the properties of 2-D shapes, including the number of sides, and line symmetry in a vertical line.
