Comparing Numbers to 10 000

In this lesson, children learn how to round numbers to the nearest 10. Number lines and rounding rules are used to support their understanding. There is a teaching presentation accompanied by differentiated activities with a range of fluency, reasoning and problem-solving questions.

Description

By the end of this unit, children will be able to:

  1. Recognize the importance of place value in understanding the magnitude of numbers.
  2. Understand the meaning and application of these symbols in numerical comparisons.
  3. Compare numbers using the symbols < (less than), > (greater than), and = (equal to).
  4. Apply the skill of comparing numbers to solve real-world problems involving quantities, measurements, or situations.
