Counting Vertices in 2D Shapes

By the end of this unit, children will be able to:

  1. Recognize and name common 2D shapes (e.g., square, triangle, rectangle, circle).
  2. Count and identify the number of vertices (corners) in various 2D shapes.
  3. Differentiate between shapes based on the count of their vertices.
  4. Group and classify shapes based on the number of vertices.
  5. Identify shapes with specific numbers of vertices (e.g., triangles have 3 vertices).
  6. Solve real-life problems involving counting vertices in 2D shapes.

Curriculum Alignment: Year 2 Geometry: Properties of shapes

  • Identify and describe the properties of 2-D shapes, including the number of sides, and line symmetry in a vertical line.
