How Light Travels

By the end of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. explore the concept of how humans see objects;
  2. identify that light travels in straight lines;
  3. recognize that light can change direction when reflected from an object;
  4. draw simple ray diagrams to explain how light travels in straight lines from a light source to an object and is then reflected to the eye.

Curriculum Alignment: Year 6 Science: Light:

  • recognise that light appears to travel in straight lines
  • use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain that objects are seen because they give out or reflect light into the eye
  • explain that we see things because light travels from light sources to our eyes or from light sources to objects and then to our eyes
