Classifying, Measuring And Drawing Angles — Interactive Lesson (KS3)

This Classifying, Measuring and Drawing Angles lesson brings together two closely linked KS3 geometry skills in one resource. Students first learn to classify by sight — recognising acute (less than 90°), obtuse (between 90° and 180°) and reflex examples (between 180° and 360°) — and become familiar with the conventional markings used for a right angle.

The lesson then moves on to practical measuring and drawing: using a standard 180° protractor correctly, lining up the centre point exactly on the vertex, and reading the result accurately regardless of which way the shape faces. Students progress from working up to 180° to the full range between 180° and 360°, with guided practice at each stage.

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to classify by sight, use conventional markings, and confidently use a protractor to measure and draw across the full 360° range — including estimating size before measuring, by comparing against 90° and 180° benchmarks.
